Start a New Adventure - Outer Banks, NC
Rodanthe is one of the three Tri-Villages (Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo) on Hatteras Island, known for natural beauty, a slower pace, and a strong local feel. Rodanthe Pier is a short walk for fishing (no NC fishing license required from the pier) and ocean breezes. The Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Historic Site & Museum is just down the road, with preserved buildings and historical reenactments.
For watersports, this stretch of island is a mecca — Kitty Hawk Kites Kiteboarding School, Rodanthe Watersports, and Hatteras Island Sail Shop offer lessons and rentals for kiteboarding, windsurfing, kayaking, and paddleboarding, particularly on the calmer Pamlico Sound side. Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge sits just to the north for birdwatchers and nature lovers.
Local restaurants like Good Winds (sound views) and Lisa’s Pizzeria, plus boutiques and art galleries scattered through the village, give you reasons to leave the lazy river — but only some of them. Golfers can head to Nags Head Golf Links, about 33 minutes away.
